Diploma project 2010 – Ulstein Group

The project I have chosen to work on is the Infotainment system. The system today is of different components put together behind a wood plate with the television in front. The main areas I am going to focus on is product design, tangible interaction and the holistic experience. Secondary areas would be branding of the product and screen based Interaction.

Oslo Popmusic Museum

* fire etasjer med utstillinger, opplevelser og dypdykk i norsk musikkhistorie

* faste installasjoner med instrumenter, avspillingsutstyr og historiske bilder

* musikkbibliotek og platebar

* titusener av bilder, låter, videoer, intervjuer og sjeldne liveopptak

* regelmessige temakvelder og konsertopplevelser

* seminarrom, kafé, kinosal og utleielokaler

* restaurant, uteservering, kino og livescener

This is a group project with me and Bilal C

First consepts

We had a brainstorm on concepts by thinking about what kind of sensors we would like to use.

Danceman Video

Choice of consept

We ended up with two consepts we wanted to look deper into:

1) -The mirror gamemirror3

This is a game primarily made for two players either competing against each other or cooperating to score points together.
The players will be standing on each side of a glass screen facing each other. The glass should be multi-input touch sensitive. Graphics on the screen indicate where the players are supposed to touch with their hands. This will work more or less like a kind of rhythm game ala Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but the fact that the players are facing each other and interacting physically together on one screen will hopefully create new and interesting opportunities. The players may for instance be required to quickly touch the screen at certain spots at the same time to score points. It is of course essential that the players should be able to see each other through the transparent screen and also graphics which might have reduced opacity for see-through capabilities.

2) – The Piggybankimg016

The idea here evolved to be more of a music composing tool. The animals on the picture are changed into balls, that represent a animal or musical sound that compose music and beats in a roller coaster like arena.

Final concept

After looking at what challenges we want to work with on this project, where idea 1 is more of a challenge on the aestetics and interaction, and idea 2 is physics music beat composing, we decided to go for idea 1 – «The mirror game».

Thougths

What kind of movement should interact with the output.

-Human?

pushing, stroking, sliding, jumping, running, dancing, arms, legs, whole body, turning head, crouching, walking, moon-walking, etc

-Animal?

bird (flying), frog (jumping), dog (running), snake, dinosaur, etc

The Wii fit board

wiifit

This weeks task was to find new uses to the wii fit board. Working with Bilal and Shahrooz, we came up with the two player paramedic consept «Rescueline».

Starting with paper prototyping to test out the game we got some opinions and guidelines on how the game should work.

We ended up evidencing the game like a comercial for the game, focusing on the physical interaction.

The Arduino Board

arduino316

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It’s intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP).
